The approach / Blue Hawaiian Helicopters is Hawaii's leading helicopter tour company in Hawaii since 1985. The problem wasn't their online presence. They ranked #1 in almost anything that included the word helicopter. Their problem was they had an antiquated website with a difficult booking system. 

I got the opportunity to do 2 of the things I love - solve complex problems to boost aquisition numbers while bringing their brand to life.

DISCOVERY

Know the history.

I jumped on the phone with this team constantly. I was, more than likely, probably a little tiring to them at first. But they knew how much I cared and considered the problem they were trying to confront.

In the old site, it was a tedious, long process bogged down by T&C's and legal requirements showcased in a disruptive way, that left them with high cart abondenment issues. The paradigm for booking online tours, rentals, vacations, etc. is out there -- Just need a way to implement that into their service in an elegant way.

Making booking easier.

My biggest challenge was taking their booking system, work with the development team on BH's side, and come up with an easier, consistent, common approach to booking a tour.

My first thought was to use a common booking paradigm. I built a design system from the ground up to eventually hand off to their team. This included interaction design, components, and more. This made the process of building a new booking agent faster, leaner, and scalable.
